  • Saturday Hike on Trans Canada Trail

    Start of the hike

It was a mild winter morning when 14 people as far away as Port Glasgow and Aylmer gathered for
one of Marg Hulls quarterly hikes for the EHTC. Their was a new bench to rest and view the valley below.

The hike was approximately 7.7 km with horses and ponies on the way.

Not many birds were seen, yet a Cedar Waxwing did make an appearance near the end of the hike. Our resident happy guy really bonded with the horse, even though he did not have an apple.

Everyone enjoyed the hike and the weather. Thanks to Marg for organizing.

  • Dutton Dunwich TCT Celebration

Dutton Dunwich Trans Canada Trail Celebration.

The trail is now 93% complete and some 22,000 kms long going through 13 provinces and territories. The Great Trail is comprised of 432 individual trail sections of which the Dutton Dunwich trail is one. There is The Great Trail app for IOS and Android designed in partnership with ESRI Canada.
Everyone is invited to celebrate the near completion of the Trans Canada Trail with a hike on August 26th. It would be awesome if we had a real good representation from the club. Long time member Marg Hulls will be leading the hike with a barbecue to follow. Information in poster above and a nice article in the St. Thomas Times Journal last Friday. The first 75 registrants will receive a commemorative embroidered badge.
    Hope to see you there.

  • Dutton-Dunwich hike on Trans Canada Trail

Eleven of us starting the end-to-end of Dutton/Dunwich Trans Canada Trail. The weather was cool yet quite comfortable for the 9.4 km hike this morning. There were many spring flowers in bloom and the birds were singing away. The maintenance folks were busy this week as we could see signs of at least three bridges being recently repaired. The hike was planned to end at Backus-Page House to take in The Road To Culloden, a Scottish living history event in 1745 following Bonnie Prince Charlie and his loyal Jacobites in the quest to reclaim the throne. Thanks to Marg for planning the dual event.
